Eleanor Sargent West Thompson, 94, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017. She was born December 20, 1922 in Flushing, New York to the late Alfred L. West and Grace Hallet West. Eleanor was employed by Bell Telephone Company prior to marriage and later spent over 10 years in the antiques business. She lived in Bayside, NY until she married and moved to New Jersey. She was most known for her servant heart as she began volunteering in her community as a teenager. She served as a hospital candy striper as well as volunteering alongside the USO and Red Cross during WWII. Eleanor continued her love of community service, serving in the Book & Needle Club of Oradell for over 40 years. She lived in Oradell, NJ until 10 years ago following the death of her husband when she moved to North Carolina.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 6:00 to 6:45 pm at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ at a later date.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Pamela Burch and husband, Loren of Raleigh; son, Bruce Thompson and wife, Cathy of Streamwood, IL; grandchildren: Jessica Watt (Christopher) of NC, Jonathan Offner (Miriam) of AZ, Matthew Offner (Marina) of MA, Timothy Offner (Kara) of PA, and Jason Thompson of IL; great-grandchildren: Jackson Watt, Savannah Watt, Madelyn Watt, Bentley Watt, Grayson Offner, Pax Offner, Marseille Offner, Salem Offner, and Sofia Offner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Thompson and brother, Franklin H. West.
