Bettye Brooks (Weldon) Faulkner

May 27, 1937 ~ April 3, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Bettye Brooks Weldon Faulkner, 79, passed away peacefully at her Knightdale residence on Monday April 3 2017.

Bettye was the youngest daughter of Tollie Henry Weldon, Sr. and Clyde Daniel Weldon, born and raised on a farm in Epson, NC. In 1959 she married her husband of 39 years, Cleamon Faulkner of the US Airforce. At home Bettye was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Bettye was the backbone and strength to her family, holding their hand through their darkest moments and rejoicing with them in their happiest of moments. Her love for Christ could not be contained and shown through to all who knew her. Her second home was always her church and her church family. Over the years she was a dedicated member at Green Pines Baptist Church and New Covenant Life Baptist.

In her work, Bettye was one of a kind. She was what one might see as a feminist. She took a stand and fought for the positions and promotions she deserved in her male dominated field of work. She had the honor of working for several of the State and Federal Departments/Programs. While her husband was in the military, she worked a civil service job at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan from 1962 to 1967. Upon returning to the states she worked with the Farm Service Agency, formerly known as Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service until she retired in the late 90’s. Bettye came out of retirement to run the day to day operations of NC Phase II Tobacco Certification Entity for 6 years with John Ray Davis until the program work was completed.
