William "Bill" Edward Carswell

William “Bill” Edward Carswell, Jr., 86, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022. He was born April 14, 1935 in Georgia to the late William Edward Carswell, Sr. and Eula Blanche Hartley Carswell. Bill graduated from Williston High School in Williston, FL and received his Associated Degree from the University of Florida where he played football for the Gators. He served his country in the US Army in Korea and in the reserves during the Berlin Crisis. Bill literally married the “little girl next door” on December 18, 1960 in Williston, FL and they moved to the Daytona Beach area where he served as a Deacon at Westside Baptist Church and Riverbend Community Church as well as the sound board and chair set-up team. Bill worked in the food industry most of his adult life, he was a food broker with Snyder & Associates and retired with Publix Grocery Store. 

He is survived by his children: Teresa L. Vaughn (Keith), John E. Carswell (Cindy), Beth Lockamy (Brian); grandchildren: Rachel Carswell, Matthew Carswell (Sabrina), Nic Vaughn (Bethany), Naomi Landorf (Kade), Justin Lockamy (Anna), Josh Vaughn, Andrew Lockamy, Tyler Lockamy; great-grandchildren: Cullen and Leeland Carswell; brother, Donald Carswell (Nancy). 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jones Carswell on April 27, 2021 and his cousin, Robert L. “Bob” Edmundson. 

A service to celebrate his life will be held in at New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC and Ormond Beach, FL at a later date that will be announced via Facebook. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern North Carolina, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Ste 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
