Robert "Bobby" Gray Walston

Robert “Bobby” Gray Walston, 77, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023. He was born July 17, 1945 in Wilson County to the late James Hardy Walston and Betsy Ellis Walston. Bobby graduated from Statonsburg High School in 1964. Bobby honorably served his country in the US Navy from January 1966 to October 1969. While in the Navy, he was a proud member of the Seabees. He retired after 25 years of service as a central office technician with Carolina Telephone now known as Century Link.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, February 6, 2023 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale.

He will be inurned on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro with Military Honors.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dolores “Dee” Jean Griffin Walston; daughters: Judy Barbour (Mike), Debbie Hodges (Ken); grandchildren: Brett Bunting (Jodi), Michael Barbour (Kari), Eric Bunting and Nicole Schmitz (Joe); great-grandchildren: Cailyn Schmitz, Trevor Barbour, Brayden Schmitz, James Barbour, Mallory Bunting, Izzie Barbour and Brycen Bunting; brother, William Ray “Billy” Walston (Fannie Leigh) and sister-in-law, Rochelle Walston.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sisters: Adell Walston Windham and Sallie Ruth Walston Whitley; brother, James Earl “Sambo” Walston.
