Ormand Kelly “O.K.” Strickland, 95, passed away at his home Tuesday, July 27, 2021. O.K. was born in Wake County on October 13, 1925 to the late James Everett Strickland and Hersie Kelly Strickland. He served his country in the US Army during WWII receiving the WW II Victory Medal, EAME Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star Medal. On December 23, 1946 he married the love of his life, Peggy Hinnant Strickland, who preceded him in death on March 9, 2007. O.K. retired from Universal Furniture with 45 years of service and worked part-time with Strickland Brothers Painting Company. He served 21 years with the Wendell Fire Department as a volunteer fireman.
O.K. is survived by his loving and devoted son, Tony Kelly Strickland; a host of special nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Margaret Bunn.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Roderick, Cecil, Leamon, Raymond and Wilbur Strickland; and sisters: Naomi Strickland and Elsie Strickland Finch.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 30, 2021 at Clyde’s Chapel Baptist Church, 16657 Buffalo Road, Wendell, NC 27591. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, July 29, 2021 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
