James “Jimmy” Harvey Cox, Jr., 71, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was born May 19, 1950 in Durham, NC to the late James Harvey Cox, Sr. and Nancy Raynor Cox. He worked as a Chemical Mixer with Almay Cosmetics. “Jimmy” as everyone called him, loved music. He had a beautiful voice and honored God by always singing gospel music. His favorite song was “Sheltered in the Arms of God”. He began singing at the age of five. He was in the North Carolina Boys Choir until he was nine years old and sang in the choir at First Trinity Baptist Church in Durham for years. Jimmy loved the Outer Banks, he and his late wife would travel there all year round.
No formal services will be held at this time.
He is survived by his son, James Michael Cox; sister, Sally Rhew and husband, Buford, Anna Medlin; brother, John R. Cox.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Karen McGuire; brothers: Clarence and Milton Cox.
