Obituary

Victor “Vic” Eugene Lebsock, age 74, died peacefully on April 22, 2024 following a brief illness. He was a devoted and supportive husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.

The oldest of eight children, Vic was born on May 6, 1949 in Brush, Colorado to the late Clarence Victor Lebsock and Mary Ellen (Fulton) Lebsock. He spent his childhood in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He treasured his school experience in Fort Morgan participating in football, baseball, show choir, and student leadership. Vic graduated from Colorado State University in 1972. He met the love of his life, Donna, in 1976 and they were married September 4, 1977. While in Colorado, Vic and Donna had two daughters. Vic spent his first career as a geologist working in the remote expanses of Wyoming, Washington, and Texas. In later years, he probably regretted telling his daughter about the alluring beauty of the night skies of the Red Desert and had to live up to his promise to “show her one day.” Vic graduated with his Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1988 and the family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. In his second career, Vic became the Greenway Planner for the City of Raleigh. Over the course of his twenty-five year career, he and the team helped grow the greenway system from 20 miles to over 100 miles. He loved his work at the City. It allowed him to do what he was truly great at: observing the details and advocating for our environment, while crafting spaces for others to enjoy nature and connect together.

Beyond his professional work, Vic deeply valued and was faithful in his relationships. He would never turn down a cup of coffee, likely because it offered a chance to listen. He loved being involved in the various ministries of his church, Grace Lutheran: teaching, volunteering, or singing in the choir. A lifelong learner, he cherished talking to his grandsons about their ever changing interests and especially loved playing board games with them. He was meticulous, resilient, inquisitive, and patient: spending hours cross-stitching to create beautiful artwork, naming all the trees and plants while on a walk, and always working on a sudoku. But most of all he loved his family. We will miss and remember his constant and quiet love.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Sandager Lebsock; daughter Becky (Alex) Collier; grandsons: Haven and Emmett Collier; brothers: Glen, Lester, and Barry Lebsock; sister, Cheryl Hissong; and numerous extended family, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Vic was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy; and siblings: John, Howard, and Barbara.

The family would like to thank all staff at WakeMed and WakeMed North for their genuine compassion. They also express gratitude to the members of Grace Lutheran for their cards, prayers, and support over the course of Vic’s illness.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18th at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 5010 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609. Light refreshments will be served following. The service will also be livestreamed: https://www.youtube.com/user/GLCWebservant
