William David Whitaker

William David Whitaker, 80, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. He was born March 10, 1938 in Durham County to the late Grover Allen Whitaker Sr. and Hazel Long Whitaker. He graduated from Northern High School in Durham and went to work with the US Postal Service.  Bill retired with 33 years of service, and served as Postmaster in Wendell and Zebulon, and then retired in Zebulon. Bill enjoyed spending time in his yard and was an avid rose gardener.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, April 30, 2018 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Surviving: daughters: Aimee Louise Whitaker of Raleigh, Traci Whitaker George (Jerry) of Zebulon; grandchildren: Brittany Nicole George, Krystal Lynn George, Ashleigh Louise Whitaker; brother: Ronnie Edward Whitaker of Durham; sisters: Jane W. Sturdivant of Chapel Hill, Sue W. Murray and Valinda W. Walker both of Raleigh and Dorothy W. Barksdale of Merritt Island, FL.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by the mother to his children, Sharon Louise B. Whitaker, on May 13, 2017; siblings: Grover Allen Whitaker, Jr., Norman Jones Whitaker, Ruby W. Rhew, and Elsie W. Rigsbee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pilot Baptist Church, 8103 NC 39 Hwy S., Zebulon, NC 27597.
