Thurmon Jones, Jr., 79, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Wellington Nursing Center after many months of declining health. He was born October 6, 1937 in Wilson County to the late Thurmon Jones, Sr. and Clara Speight Jones. He honorably served his country in the US Army. Thurmon retired with many years of dedicated service with Barnhill Contractors.

Funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545.  Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, February 20, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory.

 Surviving: wife, Mary Jane Mitchell Jones; son, Michael Jones (Carla) of Clayton; grandchildren: David Ingram, Dylan Barefoot, Tucker Jones, Dalton Blackwood, Trisha Blackwood; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Donnie Jones (Beverly) of Julian; sister, Carol J. Webb of Rocky Mount.

In addition to his parents, Thurmon was preceded in death by: daughter, Brenda Denise Jones-Blackwood; brother, Bobby Jones; sister, Judy Ezzell.    

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 4505 Falls of Neuse Rd., Ste. 650, Raleigh, NC 27609.
