Sylvanus Walter “Vane” Polky, 84, passed away Friday, August   18, 2017 at his home. He was born October 17, 1932 in St. George, Maine to the late Walter Polky and Jeanette Robinson Polky. Vane served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was a member of Knightdale Baptist Church and the American Legion Knightdale Post #529, where he served as a Past Commander.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Knightdale Baptist Church, 15 Main Street, Knightdale, NC 27545. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the service.

Surviving: wife, Barbara Polky; children: Sylvanus R. Polky (Elizabeth), Bobby Joe Polky (Elaine), Deborah Polky Emrick (Mark), Kathleen Hershman (Greg), Joseph Polky (Wendy), Eric Polky, Dottie Thompson (Jerry), and Linda King; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers: Adrien, Hildane, and Timothy Polky; sister, Nancy Copeland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Polky; grandson, Gregory Bergeron; and a sister, Lucinda Montgomery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Knightdale Post #529, PO Box 927, Knightdale, NC 27545.
