Lt Col Richard (Dick) Hurley, 77, passed away surrounded by family July 24, 2017. A VMI graduate, Air Force Telecommunication Engineer, IBMer, and child advocate. Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, brother, and sister, and is survived by his wife of 44 years, 2 daughters, son-in-law, 2 grandchildren, and a myriad of unofficial children from all walks of life – related and unrelated – that he cared for, mentored, and loved just as much as his own. After retiring, he was moved to do community service he had been ‘neglecting’, and found his rewarding passion working with Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for the last 21 years.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 6, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545.

The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
