Rachel Pope Tibbens, 91, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017. Rachel was born July 25, 1925 in Wake County to the late Leroy Pope and Bettie Carpenter Pope. She was a retired seamstress and also worked at Wake Med for several years. Rachel retired from Rhodes Oil Company. As long as her health permitted, she was a member of Knightdale Baptist Church, The BALL Club, as well as the Knightdale Home Extension Group. 

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husbands: Carl Holmquist in 1966, Leroy Rhodes in 1988 and Vance Tibbens in 2009; her son Tim Holmquist in 2016; brother, William Henry “Doodle” Pope; sister, Louise Brown. 

Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545. Burial Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, 8400 Poole Rd., Knightdale. 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Donnie and Elaine Holmquist, 2812 S. Smithfield Rd., Knightdale. 

Surviving: son, Donnie E. Holmquist (Elaine) of Knightdale; daughter-in-law, Annette Holmquist of Knightdale; step-daughter, Patricia Tibbens Waller of Raleigh; grandchildren: Todd Holmquist (Kathy), Steven Holmquist (Kim), Necole Medlin (Michael), Brandon Holmquist (Alicia), Candice Holmquist and her friend Ryan; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers: Robert Pope and James Pope both of Knightdale.
