Ophelia (Wilborn) Horton

Ophelia Wilborn Horton, 105, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at The Gardens of Rose Hill where she made her home for the past 5 years, until that time she made her home at 212 Hester Street, Knightdale. She was born November 26, 1912 on a farm in Roxboro to the late John William Wilborn and Kathryn Hawkins Murray. Ophelia retired from Belk Department Store in Downtown Raleigh where she worked as a cashier. She was a member and Deaconess at Knightdale Baptist Church for approximately 50 years. She was a devoted Christian who taught and mentored many young women in the Knightdale Community. Ophelia loved her family, friends, neighbors and church.                  

Funeral service 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Knightdale Baptist Church, 15 Main Street, Knightdale, NC 27545. Burial will follow at the old church cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the church fellowship hall.

Surviving: sister, Eglantine Wilborn Bailey Zirkli of Rose Hill, NC and Macon, GA; nieces: Cynthia B. Watson (Ebern Jr.), Knox Olsen (Bernie), Faye Horn, and Peggy Johnston; nephews: Kenneth Bailey, James Wilborn, and Lee O’Briant; many great-nieces and great-nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Branch Horton; two sisters, four brothers, one niece, four nephews, and one great-niece.
