Joy Upchurch Strobel, 71, passed away at her home on Monday, April 10, 2017. She was born in Raleigh to the late Joseph Bailey “JB” and Helen White Upchurch. Joy took an early retirement after 20 years with Southern Bell, where she went from Operator to Assistant Manager of Operator Services. She then enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling. Later, she fulfilled a childhood dream and spent her favorite times with family and friends at Oak Island.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, 27603.

Surviving: husband of 50 years, Phil Strobel; sister, Jeanne Moody of Knightdale; brother, James D. “Jimmy” Upchurch and wife Juanita of Angier; half-sister, Patty Jo Heath and husband Danny of Wilmington; and a special niece, Pam.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jay Upchurch.

In lieu of flowers, Joy requested that memorial contributions be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
