Jessie Dewey “J.D.” Driver, Jr., 91, of Zebulon, Nash County, passed away at Franklin Manor in Youngsville on September 17, 2016. “J.D.” was born in Nash County on July 12, 1925 to the late Jessie Dewey Driver, Sr. and Bettie Mae Lewis Driver. He graduated from Middlesex High School after serving his country in the US Army during WWII. After the war he returned to school where he met and married his wife Helen Chamblee Driver on January 1, 1949. JD was a licensed Optician as well as a retired branch manager with Bausch and Lomb with many years of service. As long as his health permitted, he was a faithful member of Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church, joining the church at the age of eleven.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church, 14551 Taylors Mill Road, Middlesex, NC  27557.  Entombment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

Surviving; wife of 67 years, Helen; Daughter: Linda Driver Sossamon (Ron) of Indian Trail;

Son: Joel Dee Driver of Zebulon; Grandchildren: Shelley Sossamon Smith (David), Julie Sossamon Edwards (Heath), Andrew Pierce Driver; Great Grandchildren: Zane Smith, Savanah Smith, Lexie Edwards, Kara Edwards, Lindy Edwards, Holly Edwards; Sisters: Naomi Driver Johnson of Middlesex, Jacqueline Driver Murray of Raleigh; Brother: Carlton Glenn Driver of Middlesex.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Louis Franklin Driver and Harold Lloyd Driver.

The Driver family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, September 19, 2016, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church.
