Dewey Yancey (D.Y.) Murphy, Jr., 84, passed away on May 12, 2017 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. D.Y. was born in Edgecombe County to the late Dewey and Josephine Murphy.  During his retirement years, he loved spending time with his family, fishing at the coast, doing puzzles, and “piddlin” around the house and yard. 

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Wall Murphy; daughter, Susan Murphy; son, Kenneth Murphy and wife Meg and son Michael Murphy; grandchildren, Allison Murphy of Brooklyn, NY and Matthew Murphy of Greensboro, NC; and sister-in-law, Roxie Myrick.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale.  The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Rd., Knightdale. The burial will follow immediately in the church cemetery.
