Brenda Gurkin Brown, 62, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017. She was born January 15, 1955 in Martin County to Penny Rogerson Gurkin and the late James Cleveland Gurkin. Brenda graduated from high school and went on to earn her degree from East Carolina University. She married William A. Brown on May 11, 1979 and has been a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to many.  

A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 1794 Wendell Blvd., Wendell, 27591. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:45 pm at the church. 

Surviving: husband, Bill Brown; son, Matthew Brown (Haley) of Raleigh; daughter, Erin Leigh B. Cook (Steven) of Clayton; grandchildren: Ryken, Charis, Emma, Avery; mother, Penny R. Gurkin of Williamston; sisters: Mary Manning and Lisa Gurkin both of Williamston.  

In addition to her father, Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Ray Gurkin. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hephzibah Baptist Church, c/o Missions.
